For home delivery pawpaws in Kampala or Entebbe, the fruits are picked in the morning and delivered by the afternoon or evening, fresh and direct from the garden to the dining table.

Pawpaws or papayas can be intercropped with other fruits trees e.g coconuts, citrus trees, mangoes. Beans, onions and cabbage can also be grown and intercropped with pawpaws. Commercial pawpaw farmers grow pawpaws in organised rows. The stage of development at the time of harvesting the pawpaws determines the flavour of the ripened pawpaw fruit. Usually the pawpaws are ready for harvesting at 9 months making pawpaws or papayas a money spinner for pawpaw farmers improving their livelihoods and incomes.
When pawpaws or papayas start turning yellow in colour is a clear indication that the pawpaw is starting to ripen. Pawpaw fruits harvested early have a longer post harvest shelf life but are of a lower quality in terms of quality, flavour and taste. Pawpaws or papayas grow well in deep loam soil, rich in humus with good drainage. They are, however, adaptable and will tolerate many different soils.
